Coldplay to release new album with EMI

Coldplay to release new album with EMI
By Giannis Tsagarakis | Published 02/23/2008 | Music News | Unrated

British band Coldplay will be releasing its long-awaited new album with EMI, the troubled record label that has been abandoned by Radiohead, it was reported today.David Holmes, Coldplay's manager, has been reported as saying that the group plans to release its fourth album through EMI early this summer. The band are currently putting the finishing touches to it and recently quashed rumours that it is to be called Prospekt.Writing on their official website on January 30, from Devon in the UK, the group said: "Back home for a few days. A brief rest before the final push.
"Another five weeks and we should be home and dry: another ten mixes and re-recording one of the songs from scratch."
At that time the band did nothing to dispel the rumour that they were considering quitting EMI, which was taken over by Guy Hands' private equity group Terra Firma for 3.2bn last year. Indeed, Mr Holmes told The Times newspaper last month that "Coldplay have a lot of options."Some artists are rumoured to have threatened to abandon the company, including Robbie Williams, whose manager Tim Clarke, has accused Mr Hands of "behaving like a plantation owner" at EMI.However, of the furore surrounding EMI, Coldplay's manager, Dave Holmes, told Billboard.com yesterday: "When all that was going on we were over here in the studio, so we kind of steered clear of all that. We've got a great plan in place.
"We're just about finished. They're in the final mixing. They'll start mastering, and away we go. It's a fantastic record. They've really put the work in."
The band have been working on the untitled album since November 2006.Mr Holmes told Billboard.com that Coldplay's fourth album is set for an early release this summer, with a tour of North America and Europe to follow.
Last month, Mr Hands confirmed plans to offload a number of artists. He told the Daily Telegraph: "About a third of the artists who sign with EMI never make an album."We're going to drop a fair number of them. You've got to get them to a level where you can provide a super service."EMI currently has more than 14,000 acts under contract. Mr Hands also plans to slash around 6,000 jobs.A spokesman for EMI said: "Coldplay is working on the album and it will be released by EMI's Parlophone label". Source:telegraph.co.uk

If you hadn't already heard, Eminem is working on his memoir- yes that's right the Detroit rapper is going to be writing more than just lyrics! In initial reports, UK Publisher Orion Books confirmed the release date as October 16th 2008 and said that the book which will be entitled “Eminem: The Way I Am,” would provide a unique insight into the rapper, including unseen photographs and lyric sketches. These reports however, have been slammed by the rapper's spokesperson referring to this as “inaccurate information”, saying “the book is still in the process of being written and edited."
"There is no firm release date scheduled, although it is anticipated to arrive in the latter part of this year,”
“The news about the project today came from the U.K. publisher, who is not involved in the day-to-day editing or creation of the book."So Slim Shady fans will have to wait a little longer for what promises to be a very interesting read. This report is provided by mtv.co.uk

Sources say Coachella producers AEG Live/Goldenvoice will stage a summer festival with major headliners at Liberty State Park, just across the Hudson River from lower Manhattan. The event will not carry the Coachella brand.Liberty State Park has hosted a handful of concerts in recent years, most notably a Radiohead show shortly before the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The new event gives AEG/Goldenvoice a major summer presence in the area, where it will compete with the new Vineland festival. That event, promoted by C3 Presents and Melvin Benn's Festival Republic, will be held Aug. 8-10 at a 500-acre, privately-owned farm in Vineland, N.J., about 40 minutes outside of Philadelphia.Meanwhile, an announcement is expected in the coming days revealing the lineup for this year's Coachella festival, to be held April 25-27 in Indio, Calif. Bauhaus Bowing Out With New Album
By Giannis Tsagarakis | Published 12/5/2007 | Music News | Unrated

The good news for Bauhaus fans: the group is eyeing a March 4 release for "Going Away White," its first studio album since 1983. The bad news: there will be no further activity from the legendary goth band, who reunited in 2005 for the Coachella festival and later toured the world."We were getting along really well, but there was an incident that occurred," drummer Kevin Haskins tells Billboard.com, declining to elaborate further. "Some of us just felt that we didn't want to carry on as a working unit."As such, "Going Away White," which the band is releasing digitally via iTunes and on CD via its own Bauhaus Music imprint through Redeye Distribution, will close the book on Bauhaus. Haskins, guitarist Daniel Ash, bassist David J and vocalist Peter Murphy recorded the album last year after entering the studio "with nothing prepared," according to Haskins.
"I was concerned because history most of the time has proved that when groups reform and record, it doesn't work out," he says. "We all decided, let's just give it a go and see if it's working. What emerged were songs Haskins says stay true to the original Bauhaus spirit, including "Adrenaline" and "Endless Summer of the Damned," which were performed during a summer 2006 tour with Nine Inch Nails."Now, there's a little bit of an empty feeling because we can't tour with it," Haskins admits. "All the same, it's something we're very proud of, and we feel a lot of people will be interested to hear it." Source: billboard.com

Spice Girls kick off reunion tour with splashy concert
By Giannis Tsagarakis | Published 12/3/2007 | Music News | Unrated

The Spice Girls kicked off their reunion tour Sunday, the first time all five members of the group have toured together in almost 10 years.
When they took to the multi-level stage, the famous quintet sparkled in gold and bronze outfits by Italian designer Roberto Cavalli. They opened with their signature song, "Spice Up Your Life," followed by "Stop" and "Say You'll Be There."The show was the first with all five of the original group since Geri "Ginger Spice" Halliwell quit to pursue a solo career in 1998. Their last album, "Forever," released in 2000 and without Halliwell, fared poorly. They broke up in 2001.
As they prepared for the concert, the Spice Girls said they were excited and nervous about their big night."You know what, so much time has passed, so much water has gone under the bridge, it's just great to all be back together," said Melanie Chisholm, also known as "Sporty Spice."Chisholm dismissed the notion that there was any tension among the women."I don't think we ever thought it was the four of us and Geri," she said. "Us coming back together has been five individuals coming back together."Just hours before they took the stage, Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham's husband, David, gave each member of the group a special bracelet to mark their return.Other members of the Spice Girls are Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton and Melanie "Scary Spice" Brown. The Spice Girls were one of the biggest acts of the '90s with more than 55 million records sold. Other stops on their reunion tour include Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York, London and Madrid, Spain. Source:freep.com
